As a Switchboard Operator , you'll be the first point of contact for patients and healthcare professionals. You'll be responsible for managing all incoming and outgoing calls across our hospital sites, ensuring they are handled promptly, professionally, and in line with our hospital protocols. Your role will be essential in delivering outstanding care and communication while working closely with the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the central switchboard to manage calls for multiple hospital locations.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for all telephone communications, directing calls to the appropriate hospital staff, departments, and stakeholders.
- Handle calls efficiently and professionally, ensuring a seamless communication process while minimizing missed calls.
- Escalate technical issues or disruptions in service to IT or telecoms support teams.
- In case of emergencies, initiate emergency call procedures (e.g., fire or major incidents).
What We're Looking For:
- Essential: GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stay calm and composed under pressure, especially in emergency situations.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Committed to confidentiality and data protection standards.
- Comfortable using IT systems and learning new technologies quickly.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a switchboard or call center environment is a plus.
- Proficiency in using telephone systems.
- Experience working in a hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Working Hours:
- Shift work Monday to Friday with potential Saturday shifts required.
