Cygnet Hospital Beckton is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with inspectors praising staff for their ‘safe, person-centred care’. The hospital is a gender-specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. Cygnet Hospital Beckton accepts emergency and planned pre-assessed admissions. The hospital aims to support individual service user recovery, integrating them back into the community as soon as possible. We have a talented multi-disciplinary team of specialists who offer a broad range of therapies, in our welcoming hospital.
The team takes great pride in providing the best possible therapeutic environment in conjunction with service users. We value the role of family and have a well-established Carers Network that meets regularly to share the latest hospital news and listen to feedback from relatives and friends of those being cared for at the service.
All bedrooms within the hospital are en-suite, and there is also an enclosed garden, plus several balcony areas that are accessible 24 hours a day. Other facilities include a fully equipped, air-conditioned gym, two occupational therapy kitchens and telephone conference facilities.

New Dawn Ward
Personality Disorder Service offering DBT interventions.
New Dawn Ward is an 18-bed specialist Tier 4 Personality Disorder service. Women can be admitted to New Dawn if they have a diagnosis of personality disorder, exhibit self-harming behaviour and are able to accept the need for help. Service users can be informal or detained under the mental Health Act.
Upping Ward
Personality Disorder Intensive Support Service for Women.Upping Ward is an Intensive Support Service for women with a diagnosis of personality disorder and complex mental health needs. The service pathway provides a robust programme of care for women with challenging, high risk behaviour who experience difficulties engaging with therapeutic programmes. The aim here is to meet the needs of these women, who may have had previous inappropriate placements, in a less restrictive setting.
Hooper Ward
Acute Service for Women.Hooper Ward is Cygnet Hospital Beckton’s 12 bed acute mental health service for women. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
Svanna Ward
PICU Service for Women.Cygnet Hospital Beckton’s brand new PICU for women is now open and accepting referrals. The 12-bed ward accepts emergency and crisis admissions from all service types.
