This position is suitable for a very experienced Specialist Obs/Gynae Sonographer and would accept candidates on a 7 level. The hourly pay rate for this role is £40 - £55 P/H all inclusive. Obstetric Sonographer - Insourcing contract ( Scotland) Contract Type: Temporary Insourcing Assignment Department: Obstetric Ultrasound Reports To: Lead Midwife Sonographer / Insourcing Programme Manager Pay: £650 Per day (Outside IR35) Start Date: 01/01/2026 Duration: 6 months Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday or Weekends / Evenings Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Obstetric Sonographer to join our Insourcing Diagnostic Programme supporting maternity and gynaecology services across Scotland. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to reducing scan backlogs while delivering high-quality, patient-centred ultrasound services within a modern and supportive clinical environment. Key Responsibilities * Independently perform and report on obstetric, early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound scans, following national and local protocols (RCOG, BMUS). * Provide expert counselling and communication with patients, including discussing complex or sensitive findings in a professional and empathetic manner. * Support antenatal screening and diagnostic services, including first-trimester screening and anomaly scans. * Maintain DQASS cycle participation and adhere to quality assurance standards. * Collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including midwives, obstetricians, and fetal medicine specialists. * Supervise and support trainee sonographers or students where required. * Maintain accurate digital records and ensure compliance with governance, infection control, and data security standards. This short-term assignment will help expand scanning capacity and reduce waiting lists, working within established NHS clinical environments alongside in-house teams. Key Responsibilities * Perform a full range of obstetric ultrasound scans, including: o Growth, velocity, and liquor volume assessments o Fetal anomaly and NT scans o General antenatal and follow-up scans * Provide high-quality diagnostic reports and ensure accurate clinical documentation. * Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly and compassionately to patients. * Maintain compliance with RCOG, BMUS, and local clinical protocols. * Collaborate closely with consultants, midwives, and fetal medicine specialists to support seamless patient care. * Uphold quality assurance standards, including participation in DQASS cycles and audit processes. * Adhere to local governance, infection control, and patient safety policies.
