Description
Priory Hospital Chelmsford is looking to recruit an Occupational Assistant Therapist to join the team. This is a full-time/37.5 Hours role.

Chelmsford is one of the UK's leading treatment centres and is rated by former patients for its excellence, dedication and commitment, as well as producing outstanding treatment outcomes.

The hospital first opened in 1992 and since then, has established an excellent reputation for providing fast access to high quality treatment for a range of addictions as well as treatment for mental health difficulties. We offer private autism assessments for adults and children, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments for young people. We also have a dedicated young people's mental health inpatient service, Willow Ward, which provides expert care in a supportive environment. As well as our inpatient offering for young people, we also offer a day hospital providing structured therapeutic support without the need for a full admission.

What you'll be doing
You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.
  • Support Occupational Therapists in delivering therapeutic programmes that promote independence, daily living skills, and meaningful activity engagement for service users across a range of mental health or healthcare settings.
  • Facilitate individual and group-based activities designed to enhance physical, emotional, cognitive, and social wellbeing, adapting interventions to meet service user needs.
  • Observe, record, and report on service user progress, contributing to care planning and maintaining accurate documentation in line with organisational policies.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide person-centred support, encouraging participation in therapeutic goals and recovery-focused interventions.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment by assisting with risk management, safeguarding procedures, and adherence to professional and organisational standards.
You can find additional information in the attached job description.

What you'll bring to the role
Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. No two days are the same! Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows.

Candidates should have previous experience working in a healthcare, mental health, rehabilitation, or social care setting, with a genuine interest in supporting individuals to achieve greater independence and wellbeing. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to motivate service users, work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and maintain accurate records. A relevant qualification in health and social care or occupational therapy support is advantageous, alongside knowledge of safeguarding, risk awareness, and a compassionate, recovery-focused approach.
