Pay Rates: £14.24-15.00 per hour PAYE inclusive of holiday pay

Hours / Working Days: Shifts will be between Monday to Sunday, 5 days out of 7, 37.5 hours per week.

Role Overview

The GP Receptionist will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a professional, friendly, and efficient front-of-house service within a busy GP surgery. The role is key to ensuring a smooth patient journey by supporting practice operations, maintaining accurate patient records, and assisting clinicians and administrative teams with coordination and patient communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals in a polite, calm, and professional manner
  • Provide clear information regarding appointments, practice procedures, and waiting times
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with GDPR and NHS guidelines
  • Register and check in patients on arrival using EMIS Web
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records, contact details, and medical information on EMIS Web
  • Book, amend, and cancel GP and nurse appointments efficiently
  • Manage telephone enquiries and direct calls appropriately to clinical or administrative staff
  • Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures
  • Handle patient queries, complaints, and concerns professionally and escalate where necessary
  • Liaise closely with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, emails, and referrals
  • Support with administrative tasks including scanning, filing, and document management
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming reception and waiting area
  • Offer reassurance and support to anxious or distressed patients and relatives
  • Promote a positive patient experience aligned with NHS service standards
Systems Knowledge
  • Previous experience using EMIS Web is essential
  • Experience working within a GP Practice or NHS healthcare setting is highly desirable
  • Candidates should be confident using healthcare systems and able to learn new processes quickly

Salary range

  • £14.24 - £15 per hour
