Role Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the Acute and A&E Team at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen, Wales. This fast‑paced, rewarding locum role offers up to £31 per hour and provides the chance to work with frail and elderly patients, as well as individuals with respiratory and stroke‑related needs.

You will support early intervention pathways, facilitate complex discharges, and deliver specialist OT assessments and interventions within an acute clinical environment. Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

  • Deliver specialist OT assessments and interventions for:
    • Frail and elderly patients
    • Stroke patients
    • Individuals with respiratory conditions
  • Support early intervention to reduce hospital admissions and improve patient flow.
  • Lead and manage complex discharge planning for vulnerable patients.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure cohesive patient care.
  • Develop personalised, evidence‑based treatment plans.
  • Educate patients and families on recovery, rehabilitation, and safe discharge processes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in accordance with professional standards.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

  • HCPC‑registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience in acute, A&E, frailty, stroke, or respiratory OT pathways.
  • Valid driving licence (travel required between sites).
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and documentation skills.

Desirable

  • Prior experience within Welsh NHS services.
  • Familiarity with early intervention, discharge planning, and rapid response pathways.
