About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to join our clinical laboratory team in Derby. This ongoing role offers flexible part-time or full-time hours and provides the opportunity to work across multiple pathology disciplines. You will perform laboratory investigations, interpret results, and contribute to the delivery of accurate and timely diagnostic services, supporting the wider clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialised laboratory tests following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.

  • Analyse, interpret, and report test results accurately within agreed turnaround times.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Participate in quality assurance and audit programmes to maintain laboratory accreditation (e.g., ISO 15189, UKAS).

  • Support and mentor junior staff, students, and trainees as required.

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to provide expert advice on laboratory investigations.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new laboratory techniques and services.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of laboratory procedures and results.

  • Comply with all Trust policies, including confidentiality, infection control, and clinical governance.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Sound knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and quality management systems.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and maintaining professional standards.
