Job Description

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Haematology (with an interest in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Immunotherapy) at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH).

Cambridge University Hospital has been selected for commissioning as an NHS CAR T cell centre. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our established clinical team and participate in the development of our Stem Cell Transplantation, Cellular Immunotherapy and Haemato-Oncology Services.

The Department of Haematology at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers the full range of clinical (levels 1-4) and laboratory Haematology. It acts as a Tertiary Referral Centre for complex cases and serves as routine service for local patients.

Strong links exist between the Clinical Service, the academic department and the Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service. The role will also require collaboration with regional hospital colleagues.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust includes Addenbrooke's and the Rosie Hospitals. We are one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country with an outstanding reputation that is down to the exceptional people that work here.

Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do. Every person that works for the Trust, regardless of their role, comes into contact with our patients and visitors and is expected to uphold our values of Together - Safe, Kind, Excellent at all times.

We look for people who are willing to go the extra mile, not because they are asked to, but because they are committed to being part of a healthcare team that delivers an excellent caring service to our patients.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees, volunteers and contractors to share this commitment.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Haematology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013).

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.

For further details / informal visits contact:
Informal enquiries about this post should be addressed to Dr Charles Crawley, Clinical Lead for the Blood and Marrow Transplantation programme ( Apply) or

Dr Ben Uttenthal, Lead for Cellular Immunotherapy ( Apply)
