Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologists
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was created in October 2017 as the result of a successful merger between Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

This dynamic move has made us the largest NHS Trust in England, resulting in an ambitious and achievable goal of delivering a high-quality ‘Single Hospital Service’ to the local communities in Manchester and Trafford. With other patients travelling from further afield to benefit from our exceptional specialist services, we are enjoying a fascinating period of transformation that promises to enhance the life outcomes of thousands of people.

We are now delighted to invite applicants for Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologists at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). The Vascular Radiology service is currently delivered across 2 Trust sites namely the Oxford Road site (Manchester Royal Infirmary/ Royal Manchester Children’s, Saint Marys Hospital and Royal Manchester Eye Hospital) and Wythenshawe Hospital site.
Applications are sought from candidates who will help the team to deliver a high quality interventional and diagnostic vascular service.
The appointees will work alongside the 8 existing Vascular Interventional Radiologists: Dr Stephen Butterfield (Clinical Lead), Dr Sam Byott, Dr Ananth Krishnan, Dr Dave Thompson, Dr Edward Lake, Dr Can Hazar, Dr Nirmal Kakani and Dr Dare Seriki. The vascular radiologists form part of a team with thirteen vascular surgeons across the two sites.
The central site (MRI) team support vascular surgery, HPB surgery, Hepatology, Urology, Paediatric intervention, Renal and Pancreatic Transplant Surgery Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, amongst other Specialities. The South site (Wythenshawe) team support, vascular surgery, plastic surgery cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery including heart/lung transplant, and infectious disease unit.
The entire team offer a full range of intervention for patients with vascular disease including EVAR, PAD management, complex below knee vascularisation and FEVAR program. Additionally, vascular support is provided to HPB Surgery, Urology and Transplant services. As the country’s leading renal transplant and dialysis centre, it attracts a variety of related intervention such as transplant intervention, fistula creation/maintenance and complex vascular access. Both sites contribute data to registry’s as well as participating in recruitment to most vascular national trials. Both sites were major recruiters/contributors to the EVAR I and II, IMPROVE, BASIL 1, 2 and 3, ROPE and ANCHOR registries. The team currently recruits world’s first RCT for pelvic vein incompetence. Other trials currently under way also include EMINENT, DIVA and CALM, all at various stages.

The Central site is a tertiary referral centre for complex aortic intervention (FEVAR), as well as a central hub for management of GI haemorrhage, offering complex embolization and TIPS.
It is a tertiary regional centre for HPB surgery and offers a wide variation of interventional oncology procedures such as TACE and Portal vein interventions. It is one of the largest renal and pancreatic transplant centres in the UK, in which vascular interventional radiology has a significant active role. The centre also attracts complex urology/renal surgery, which require regular vascular intervention input. A consultant lead paediatric intervention service is also available. This site also provides complex embolisation for HPB and urology including prostate embolisation.
