Job Description

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.
We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a competent, confident and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team working with people with mental health problems in in-patient adult mental health on a fixed term/secondment basis.

The post holder will be based at Peppermill Court, working across both male and female wards (12-bedded each). Occupational therapy will be provided as a deliverable intervention which aims to support users in personally meaningful recovery of ordinary lives and daily occupation/s. A commitment to assessment of occupational need and the therapeutic use of occupation based intervention as core to role is essential.

The Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team committed to collaborative working, and focusing on the provision of high quality evidence based services to individuals or groups.

Successful candidate will have strong communication and people skills, a non-judgemental and person-centred recovery approach and above all a real caring attitude and be prepared to make a difference. The post will offer varied opportunities for training and development, with CPD needs being identified and monitored through appraisal. Well defined supervision systems are in place.
