Job Description

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.
We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The services are spread over a wide geographical area of around 3,600 square miles, which includes coastal, rural and industrial areas.

Both the Harrogate and District Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) and the Hambleton & Richmondshire Community Learning Disability Team are part of the North Yorkshire & York Learning Disability Service.

Each of these two multidisciplinary health teams offers specialist health services to adults with a learning disability, their families and carers. The teams also work closely with statutory agencies and others who provide services to adults with a learning disability.

The CLDTs provide a range of services which include support for physical and mental health issues; communication issues; emotional and psychological issues, and problems with general well-being.

We are seeking to appoint an Applied Psychologist, who must have either completed doctoral level clinical training or will have completed this by October 2019, and who is / will be eligible for registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC. The person appointed will work as a core member of the two Learning Disability Teams alongside an experienced psychologist in each of the two teams.

The post holder will provide psychological assessments as well as a therapeutic, consultative and advisory service in relation to adults with learning disabilities, their families and carers, according to identified clinical need. Providing consultation and where necessary clinical supervision to other team members in regard to patients is an important element of the role, in addition to direct clinical work.

The LD Psychology specialty within North Yorkshire & York and also across TEWV meets regularly and there are wide ranging therapeutic interests within the specialty. Opportunities to develop special interests and co-work will be encouraged, as will opportunities to undertake service development activities.

Supervision, CPD and Research interests are valued highly within the specialty and good links exist between the specialty and the Universities of Leeds, Hull and Teesside for all of whom TEWV provides clinical placements for doctoral trainees. In addition the Trust is also supporting York University by providing clinical placements for its new doctorate in Counselling Psychology.
