Applications are invited for a 6 month Fixed Term Locum Consultant Haematologist to undertake 10 PA's at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, based at St Helier Hospital. This post is to provide Maternity Cover in the absence of our substantive Consultant Haematologist. The post will be available from 1st December 2018.
This is large acute Trust serving a population of approximately Apply
in South West London and Surrey comprising two acute hospitals, one in Epsom and one in Carshalton. Clinical and laboratory haematology work is conducted at both sites, with an inpatient unit for patients receiving high-intensity chemotherapy at St Helier. The Trust is a major provider of clinical teaching for St George's Hospital Medical School and has close links with the Royal Marsden Hospital for tertiary level haemato-oncology services.
The successful candidate will join an established and enthusiastic team of 6.6 WTE consultants, and will be expected to be broadly skilled and to take part in clinical and laboratory duties at both St Helier and Epsom General Hospitals, with the bulk of the commitment being at St Helier Hospital. Particular interests and experience in haemato-oncology and/or thrombosis prevention would be welcome but there will be opportunities to develop in these areas following appointment. The appointee will participate in the roster for in-patient attending at St Helier. Participation in a 1 in 8 on-call rota is also expected, including out of hours cover.
A Consultant wishing to work less than full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. Modification of the job content would be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with colleagues.
The department is well supported by specialist nurses in haemato-oncology, blood transfusion and anti-coagulation. There are 2 Specialist Trainees on the South West London training programme and a Core Trainee in medicine. The department has an excellent record of participation in clinical trials, and benefits from the support of a dedicated research team linked to the NCRN.
All applicants must have full registration with the GMC and be a holder of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent, or be within six months of the award of the CCT or equivalent on the date of interview. Candidates wishing to work part time or job share will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
