Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine
Are you planning a career in Emergency Medicine? Do you have ambitions to progress into Higher Specialty Training or a Consultant post via the CESR route?
Then look no further than Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are seeking dynamic Specialty Doctors to join our top performing team in Emergency Medicine with vacancies based at both Epsom and St Helier Hospitals.
Not only were we one of the best performers in A&E targets in 2015/16 with over 95% of patients seen in our departments being seen within four hours; 96% of patients who needed care in our hospitals would recommend the units to their loved ones, 10% higher than the national average. We are looking to these postholders to maintain our high standards.
We have both fixed term and permanent posts available, and are able to offer secondments in Anaesthetics, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics in support of any training needs or CESR requirements. A number of our Specialty Doctors have progressed to hold posts as substantive and locum consultants.
The successful candidate will be fully involved in all aspects of the work of the department under the supervision of the consultants. He/She will attend to the initial assessment and treatment of the patients attending the department across the spectrum of emergency medicine.
For one of our posts training will be provided to enable the successful candidate to assist the Emergency Planning Lead in developing pathways and training staff in all aspects of CBRN, for which 1 PA per week will be made available (averaged over the year).
They may also undertake:
Review clinic in the department (St Helier only)
Working in the Urgent Care Centre (St Helier only)
In addition, we have a number of forward thinking departments specialising in:
Ambulatory Care - across both sites, run by the ED staff preventing the unnecessary admission of patients
Ultrasound - with 4 Level 1 trainers in the department and lots of training opportunities to progress to Level 2
Simulation - the department runs ACCS days as well as courses for trauma (ITLS), Procedural Sedation with propofol and helping with the FY1 and 2 days
Educational - ATLS, APLS, ALS are all run in house and doctors are encouraged to progress to instructor status
Our Specialty Doctors are expected to work a 10 PA contract and will receive payment for 2 additional PA's for out of hours work at night and the weekend on an 8 week rolling rota.
Eligible candidates must hold full registration with the GMC and have significant post-registration experience with relevant Emergency Medicine experience at ST1 level or higher.
