Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated Biomedical Scientists to work within Cellular Pathology, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. The department provides Histology, Non Gynae Cytology, Andrology and Mortuary services.
The laboratory is UKAS accredited and handles approximately 20,000 histology requests per annum. We receive a broad range of specimens from within the Trust, General Practitioners and Private hospitals.
Histology is divided into a number of sections encompassing Specimen Reception, Specimen dissection including BMS cut up, slide production, Immunocytochemistry and Frozen section. The Non Gynae Cytology department receives a range of samples and provides a service for a head and neck rapid access clinic and there is a development on going surrounding the provision of an EBUS service. Within the Andrology section we undertake semen analysis for Post vasectomy and Infertility. You would be expected to rotate through all of these areas.
It is essential that applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Cellular Pathology, and have technical skill in core histology and Non Gynae Cytology/Andrology. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team. Ability to undertake audits within Cellular Pathology would be desirable.
