We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic team providing specialist diabetes services to the people of Newham. This locum Consultant post will be available from 1st May until 1st November 2019, in the first instance. The successful applicant will be affiliated with the Diabetes and Endocrinology department offering outpatient care and contributing to the Specialist Diabetes Antenatal service, Outpatient diabetes clinic (Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes) and an alternate month community GP MDT meeting which aims to support continuing management of Type 2 Diabetes in Primary Care. For an interested applicant, there may be opportunity to also be involved in GIM inpatient care, general endocrinology and / or diabetes pump services, this would be directed by the preferences and interests of the incoming applicant. This is a minimum 5PA activity post with opportunity to increase hours if desired.
The team benefits from support of a Diabetes Nurse consultant, ward based Diabetes Specialist Nurses, a Type 1 Specialist nurse and dietetics. The team works closely with Community Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Podiatry (East London Foundation Trust) and has recently appointed Psychology support shared across the Trust.
Newham General Hospital serves a population of Apply
people with a high prevalence of Diabetes. We work closely with the local General Practitioners to manage Type 2 Diabetes effectively in primary care and reduce referral rates to Secondary care. This is achieved through a “Cluster” model of care whereby General Practices meet alternate months with a Diabetes consultant to discuss patient management options.
The Diabetes Antenatal service supports over 1000 diabetes affected pregnancies each year and the successful candidate will join a team of Obstetricians, 3 Diabetes Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Specialist Midwives to manage this complex and diverse patient group.
Applicants are expected to be on the Specialist Register for Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine or within 6 months of receiving their CCT at the time of interview
