We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 160 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.
We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The services are spread over a wide geographical area of around 3,600 square miles, which includes coastal, rural and industrial areas.

We are seeking research assistant volunteers to help promote the national Join Dementia Research (JDR) initiative within each of the Trust localities (Darlington & Durham, Teesside, York & Selby and North Yorkshire) and provide direct support to people with dementia to register on the JDR database.
Volunteers would be working with our Mental Health Older Peoples Services and Research Department within each one of our localities. The volunteering role includes:
Undertaking community visits to service users living with dementia to provide information on Join Dementia Research
Discussing Join Dementia Research with potential volunteers and their families/significant others and obtaining valid informed consent to register them on JDR
Supporting memory clinics and community teams in promoting Join Dementia Research by ordering and distributing promotional materials
Assisting R+D staff in the development of promotional / other educational research material for use by clients, carers and other healthcare staff Role limitations:
- No clinical or personal care
- All of the above will be in addition to an employee's role and will enhance and add value to the service that the team provides

Supervision and training will be provided. If successful volunteers will be subject to a DBS check being completed. Limited actual out of pocket expenses (e.g. travel to community visits) will be reimbursed.
