Clinical Fellow in Vascular Access Surgery and Renal Transplantation
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow (SpR Level) in Vascular Access Surgery and Renal Transplant Surgery.
The post will suit applicants who wish to gain experience in Vascular Access Surgery and renal Transplantation. Previous experience in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and completion of Basic Surgical Training (MRCS/FRCS) will be advantageous.
Applicants from the EEA are welcome.
You will be expected to provide under Consultant supervision a Renal Transplant service and a Dialysis Access service including both elective and emergency work.
In this position the appointee will be exposed to all aspects of surgical and medical management of patients with End Stage Renal Failure and Kidney Transplantation. You will also undertake a 1:5 on-call rota; this on-call element will be a non resident on-call, with further details being confirmed on appointment. This post will be EWTD compliant.
The unit performs an average of 140 Renal Transplants and 500 dialysis access procedures per year (which includes HeRO graft and extra-anatomical PTFE graft) with a large live donor transplant programme that is rapidly growing and includes HLA and ABO incompatible transplantation. The post holder will have the opprtunity to take an active part in all the aspect of the Vascular Access program, such us gaining experience on Doppler ultrasonography for pre-fistula mapping and fistula surveillance and being trained on vascular anastomosis.
There is a highly active research programme in Transplant Immunology and vascular biology (animal model of AVF) and the appointee will be encouraged to participate in it.
