Medical Laboratory Assistant (R&D) in Liver Histopathology
Afc band 3 – 6 months fixed term
A candidate with experience in handling human tissue in a medical laboratory setting is required in Liver Pathology at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital.
This is a fixed term (6 months) post in Liver Histopathology to assist clinical and scientific staff with clinical trials and bio-banking of tissues. The laboratory collaborates closely between Paediatric and Adult liver to support academic activity being undertaken by clinicians.
The work includes creation of a searchable database of the stored frozen tissue and electron microscopy tissue in the laboratory, reception of specimens, booking and safe storage of specimens, transfer of specimens from short term to long term storage as well as retrieval of specimens from storage containers. You will also be required to monitor, maintain and clean equipment used in the laboratory.
You will need to be a good communicator, willing to learn, with good attention to detail, and to work well in a busy team environment. Previous experience of work within a laboratory is desirable.

The Institute of Liver Studies at King’s encompasses clinical service and academic activities (undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and overlapping research) in adult and paediatric hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation. It was established in 1966 and is the largest specialist centre in Europe for the treatment of Liver disease. Patients both from the UK and abroad are admitted for treatment.
Histopathology service is a subdivision of the specialist Liver Pathology Service of the Networked Division.
