Applications are invited for a new full-time (10PA) Consultant Neurologist with Specialist Interest in Neuromuscular Disease to deliver Neuromuscular services and lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
North Bristol NHS Trust is a progressive and ambitious teaching and research organisation, and a specialist regional centre for major trauma, neurosciences, plastics and burns, orthopaedics and renal services. With a turnover of £550m and 8,000 staff, our clinical teams have built a strong reputation for exceptional healthcare, personally delivered.
We are working together to create the environment for exceptional healthcare – our acute services moved into the brand new, £430 million state of the art Brunel Building in May 2014. This 800 bed hospital at the Southmead site offers some patients single rooms with en-suite facilities, greatly improving privacy and dignity and helping to control the spread of infections. At the heart of what we do is a caring and compassionate workforce.
The post-holder will join an established and highly committed team of Adult and Paediatric Consultant Neurologists, Physiotherapists, Neuromuscular Advisors and Psychologists that form the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network (SWNMODN). The network aims to deliver specialist care as close to home as possible across traditional boundaries of health and social care and across organisations. This post, along with the other posts within the network, is fully funded by Specialised Commissioning.
The population to be served is principally based in the Devon and Cornwall Peninsula. Whilst this post is now advertised with a base in North Bristol NHS Trust, applications made requesting a base in a different location in the South West (including Plymouth, Exeter & Truro) would be considered. Clinics will be provided in Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, the Royal Devon and Exeter Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and North Bristol NHS Trust. Travel will be fully funded and recognised within the job plan.
Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register for Neurology, have CCT in Neurology or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
