Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust Audiology Services cover HMR, Bury and Oldham. This post is predominantly working within the boroughs of HMR and Oldham with occasional support to the borough of Bury. All three services diagnose, treat and provide rehabilitation to adults and children with hearing and balance problems within a community setting.
The Consultant Community Paediatrician – Audiology will provide a range of services within the department which include paediatric/ENT consultancy for children diagnosed with permanent childhood hearing impairment and prolonged middle ear effusion. This role will also incorporate Team Leader responsibilities to the Newborn Hearing Screening programme (NHSP) providing a clinical governance overview and direct clinical support to the NHSP Team Leader.
The key responsibilities of the post are:
Medical paediatric assessment and counselling for children diagnosed with permanent childhood hearing impairment.
- Aetiological investigation following diagnosis of PCHI.
- Vestibular and Tinnitus assessment and management.
- Medical support to paediatric audiologists.
- Advice to parents, referring agencies, education, social care, safeguarding teams etc, on impact of hearing loss and further management.

Substantive staff can choose to spread the cost over their first three months’ salary or pay the full amount from their first months’ salary. Members to the Trust bank must repay the full amount from their first pay. The Trust encourages all staff and bank workers to register with the DBS update service at an annual cost of £13, for bank members this is obligatory. The cost of an enhanced DBS check is £44 and for a standard check £26, both attract an administration charge of £3.50.
