Sunrise ward is an ‘NHS England Commissioned Tier 4 Specialist Eating Disorder Service’ in Cygnet Hospital Ealing. It is a 17 bedded all-female unit. We have an established team of MDT specialists working full time in this well-resourced service. The MDT includes full time ward doctors x 2, counselling psychologist and an assistant psychologist, a senior dietician, expressive/creative therapist, senior social worker and an assistant, senior OT and an OTA, 4 nursing team leaders and a ward manager among others.
We are Service User focused and use established outcome measures to tailor our treatment packages within established care pathways. This is reflected in our recent NHSE and CQC service reviews and in our ‘excellence accreditation’ from the RCPsych.
Our Eating Disorder Unit works closely with other hospitals from the Cygnet group and NHS Trusts, in providing a care pathway for recovery from hospital to step down services, and to supported or independent living. The post-holder will be an integral part of the MDT and will play a key part in providing clinical leadership for the service including the opportunity for developing innovative approaches and building a cohesive MDT. The successful applicant will be required to provide supervision to junior medical staff and participate in their CPD teaching programme. The post offers 3/4 flexible sessions (up to 30 hours per week) within working hours (Monday to Friday 9-5). This can be negotiated.
The Consultant in the Eating Disorder Service will be required to play a key role in developing a strong and cohesive multidisciplinary clinical team and provide clinical leadership to the team while working closely with service users, their families and clinical colleagues. The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead in CPAs, MHRTs, audits and service reviews/benchmarking. There are two associate specialists who provide day to day clinical cover Monday to Friday. Out of hours cover is provided by on-call doctors on a rota system. The successful applicant will be required to be available for consultation in emergencies and participate in our Consultant on-call rota.
Applicants will have previous experience in working with clients who have severe Eating Disorders including those with complex physical needs and/or comorbidity including EUPD. They will also be section 12 (2) approved under the Mental Health Act and have Approved Clinician Status.Qualifications and Experience
• Full registration with GMC (London), or eligible for registration
• MRCPsych or equivalent qualification + 3 years higher specialist training and inclusion or eligibility for inclusion of the specialist register
• Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PHD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
• Section 12 Approval MHA and Approved Clinician status already held
