The Cardiovascular directorate at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is a large, tertiary centre for acute referrals, providing highly specialised treatments to patients of South East London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The three departments of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery usually have 132 beds at the St Thomas' hub site, 5 cardiac catheter laboratories, 4 dedicated operating theatres and a vascular hybrid facility with integrated imaging (pre-COVID19).

The directorate is would like to appoint one proactive and highly-motivated individual to join the complex tertiary Deep Venous Service provided by the directorate. Guy's and St Thomas' has a long history of treating venous patients and is at the forefront of current advancements in the treatment of deep and superficial venous pathology as well as basic science research. We have weekly Venous MDMs with international experts in haematology and interventional radiology, dedicated thrombosis pharmacy support and Clinical Nurse Specialists in Deep Venous Disease who work alongside our Consultant Vascular Surgeons.

Applicants will need to have a background in vascular surgery and be interested in developing specialist expertise in the treatment of deep and superficial venous disease. We aim to involve the candidate in ongoing research projects, and they will be expected to help support international training workshops alongside clinical commitments. This post will be for 12 months, with the expectation that the candidate will be independent at carrying out deep venous stenting following completion of this fellowship. They will also be exposed to a range of complex venous pathologies including vascular malformations, thoracic outlet syndrome, nutcracker syndrome as well as open venous bypass surgery. The post would be ideal for doctors working towards a consultant level appointment (as a post-CCT fellowship or within 6 months of completion) who would like to broaden their expertise. Although the applicant will be expected to predominantly support the Deep Venous Service, they will also be exposed to the full range of complex tertiary services provided by the department through support of emergency work.
