Job Description

We are looking for two enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to join the Bristol Inpatient Psychology Service. Each post will provide a service for up to two wards at Callington Road Hospital as well as contributing to service-wide group interventions. The post-holders will contribute to ongoing development of our inpatient services through Quality Improvement and research projects and contribute to the running of our highly valued Working Therapeutically on Wards staff training program.

The inpatient units greatly value psychology services and are committed to having a multidisciplinary approach across all wards. Applicants should embrace the prospect of MDT working, training and service development alongside their enthusiasm for individual and group work with clients. If you enjoy the challenges and rewards of influencing best clinical practice and the development of psychologically informed environments, then this post offers a wealth of opportunities to input significantly into the development of our Inpatient Psychology Service.

Applicants should have a good knowledge of, and have developed skills around a wide range of mental health issues. Experience of working with people who have severe and enduring complex mental health difficulties covering the lifespan is also highly desirable. You will be expected to provide supervision, reflective practice, psychoeducation and clinical formulation groups to ward staff, and in essence, help steer the teams towards psychological understandings of their service users and the development of psychologically informed services.

Clinically, this role will focus on providing psychological assessment and formulation, alongside cognitive assessment, and there will be the opportunity to provide a range of therapies for individuals and groups. Applicants will need skills to adapt interventions to the dynamic inpatient setting. You may be required to work flexibly across wards to provide more specialist therapies such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and systemic-informed approaches.

You will be well supported by the Head of the Bristol Inpatient Psychology Service with regular supervision and access to special interest groups across the Trust. You will join a team of six other inpatient Psychologists based at Callington Road Hospital. Opportunities for CPD will be available and we have close links with the Bath DClinPsy Course and offer placements to Trainees as well as undergraduate psychology students within the region. The inpatient psychology team is engaged in a range of ongoing service development and research projects and welcomes applicants who have a passion to collaborate in advancing the quality of the services we offer in this way.

Our aim within the Bristol Inpatient Psychology Service is to demonstrate a commitment to the provision of high quality Psychology Services across all wards, and help develop a culture of psychologically informed thinking which is continuous and sustainable.

Two Clinical/Counselling Psychologist posts part time (30 Hours) available.
