Job Description

A rare opportunity has arisen for a professionally registered Psychotherapist/Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist to join the team delivering specialist treatment for adults with personality disorders. We are keen to recruit a clinician experienced in conducting therapeutic groups for people with severe and complex personality disorder who is able to work either 3 or 4 days. Ideally you will also have experience of working within a therapeutic community. Working days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Friday. Candidates seeking a 30 hour per week post will negotiate their fourth day with the service.

The Brenchley Unit is an established therapeutic community (TC) and an accredited member of the Community of Communities. The service was Highly Commended in the national Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards 2018. This is an opportunity to join a supportive and enthusiastic team, proven to provide effective and life changing treatment for people with complex personality disorders.

This role will involve working closely with CMHTs to advise on appropriate referrals, offering assessment and out-patient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups, which is the initial treatment phase before service users join the TC. You will also have a role in offering small group psychotherapy in the TC and attending community meetings.

You will be committed to the TC values. You will be keen to undertake working in a way that reflects the core TC values and principles, in particular, helping members develop an increased sense of agency and experiment with new ways of coping. You will be capable of working with transference processes involved in working within this demanding environment. You will also have the capacity to remain reflective and process the complex dynamics which can emerge. You will be confident with managing a caseload of complex patients who may present with significant risk. You will have the ability to organise and plan your workload so that priorities are attended to and quality standards are maintained. You will also have acquired the necessary experience and skills to deputise for the clinical lead as required and to support her and the operational lead in the day to day running of the service.

You will be working within a multi-disciplinary service which includes a Consultant Psychotherapist, Psychotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Group Analysts, Psychodrama Therapist and Clinical Psychologist offering exciting opportunities for creative work. The Trust has a second therapeutic community in Folkestone and there will be opportunities for both teams to come together to share learning experiences and work together on service developments.

You will receive on-going group clinical supervision and be part of a staff process group with the team as well as being offered professional support and development.
