Consultant in Adult Allergy

From £79,860 p.a excl. LZ

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London's best known teaching hospitals and employs over 17,000 staff and has over 2.6 million patient contacts a year. Our annual turnover is now £1.6 billion.

The Adult Allergy Department is seeking a permanent full time Consultant Allergist and a part time Consultant Allergist. These are new posts created to support the ongoing expansion of our service and a fantastic chance to join a dynamic department with opportunities for developing subspecialty clinical and research interests. The department supports clinical research and involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The Allergy Department is the largest department of its kind in the country and offers a range of general, specialist and multidisciplinary allergy clinics.Our Allergy Day Case Unit provides facilities for food and drug provocation testing and drug desensitization. We run a large allergen immunotherapy and omalizumab (chronic urticaria) service.

This post requires flexible working to provide consistency in patient care. It involves covering various clinics each week based at the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and the Allergy Unit at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup (a 20 min train ride from Guy's Hospital/London Bridge). We are at the forefront of the digital revolution and the post-holder will be asked to contribute to 'non-face to face' clinics (phone, Skype etc.) as appropriate.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (Allergy) or within six months of attaining your CCT (Allergy) or equivalent at interview stage.

You will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to the candidate agreeing to a more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
