Job Description

GUY'S AND ST. THOMAS' HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

DIRECTORATE -Lane Fox Respiratory Service

Trust Doctor Lane Fox Respiratory Service

Nodal Point 3 - £ 37,935 p.a excl. of LZ (pro rata)

Full Time - 40 hours per week

Fixed Term - 6 months

The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is a national and international referral centre for weaning, rehabilitation and long-term ventilation and this service is closely aligned with the GSTT Critical Care Department. The Lane Fox Respiratory Unit (LFU) and Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Service (LFRC) provides invasive and non-invasive management of chronic respiratory failure in two purpose built units. LFU is a 14-bed unit, established in 1989, and is based at St Thomas' Hospital and functions as a Respiratory Intensive Care and Weaning Unit and LFRC is a 20-bed unit and serves lower acuity patients with significant weaning delay and failure. The Lane Fox Respiratory Service provide inpatient care for those failing to 'wean' from invasive ventilation following critical illness.

We also investigate chronic respiratory failure resulting from a variety of causes such as:
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • neuromuscular disease (for example Duchenne muscular dystrophy and motor neuron disease)
  • chest wall disease (for example scoliosis)
  • chronic respiratory failure related to obesity.

We support a large population (over 1,500 patients) in the use of non invasive ventilation at home and an increasing number of tracheostomy ventilated patients.

The successful post-holder will work within the Lane Fox Respiratory Service and work with the consultants, nursing and therapies team and contribute to the day-to-day running of the Lane Fox Respiratory Centre. This is an exciting and challenging post and will provide the post-holder unrivalled clinical experience and significant opportunities for portfolio development, including audit and research. The role occupies a central position in the Trusts high class delivery of care and carries significant responsibility and it would suit a clinician who is undertaking post graduate examinations or working toward a research grant application as it does not have any on call commitment. However, if the successful candidate wished to increase their working hours with on call this could be arranged by joining the weekend rota (9-5pm) in the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas' Hospital.

Applications are welcomed from applicants with a disability. We can make reasonable adjustments and offer support and advice in a variety of ways throughout the application process. Equality of opportunity is our policy.

As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.

Your e-mail address is important to us -We communicate to all job applicants via the e-mail address which has been provided on the application form. Please ensure that you check your e-mail on a regular basis.
