You will be responsible for providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention, in line with the overall service delivery approach. This will include positive behaviour support, intensive treatment, training others to deliver treatment programmes, advise on environment and equipment. The post holder will also recommend on individual service users needs as part of discharge planning and specifying future service provision. The post holder will be an active member of the inpatient team and engage in a culture of evidence-based practice and person-centred care.
The post holder should be motivated by the opportunity to provide Occupational Therapy in this new post, to develop new ways of working and enhance service provision. They should understand positive behavior support and be innovative in delivering a client-centred service to adults with learning disabilities who have complex and challenging behaviours.
The post holder will have significant experience in Occupational Therapy, working with service users with a learning disability, mental health difficulties and/or complex needs. The post holder will have a compassionate manner and an appreciation of the challenges that individuals with a learning disability experience.
This post will mainly focus on in-patient services but there will be opportunity for some community work (e.g. as part of a service users transition to a new service).
There are regular occupational therapy peer meetings (speciality based and trust wide support). The post holder will be expected to engage in clinical and management supervision. Occupational Therapists within Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) work closely with other health care professional and multi-disciplinary team work is integral to the service provision.
