The Department of Urology is seeking two full-time (10 PA) consultants, one of whom will be specialising in benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate and bladder cancer management, to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. Individuals with work across both Guy's and St Thomas' and Lewisham and Greenwich Trust (LGT) sites providing high quality patient care to patients across South East London. The department prides itself on delivering innovative treatment to its patient population, and are looking for individuals with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.

The appointed Consultant Urologist will contribute to outpatient and inpatient services across Guy's, University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, providing consultation, diagnostics and treatment. The appointed Consultant Urologists will need to be flexible, keen to embrace change and have an ability to work in teams, an essential component of this job. The appointee will join a team of eighteen urological surgeons at GSTT and 3 at LGT who are committed to the success of the departments, and building working relationships across the south east London sector.

LGT and GSTT have agreed to work together to improve urology services to patients across the sector. As part of the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) series of recommendations, we are looking at how the development of our Urology Area Network (UAN) can improve services to patients across the sector. This may require changes to how and where we deliver services so is an exciting time to join these teams.

You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
