King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with over 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 13,000 staff based across five main sites in South East London and Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) site in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley, Orpington Hospital, and some services at Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary’s Sidcup. The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department. King’s is a key partner in one of London's foremost Academic Health Science Centres, King's Health Partners (KHP). KHP is one of only six Department of Health-designated AHSCs in England. It brings together a world-leading research-led university – King’s College London – and three successful NHS Foundation Trusts: King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, and South London and Maudsley. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of our dedicated workforce and join one of the largest and most successful Foundation Trusts in the UK with an international reputation for innovation and the desire to make a difference.

Our ambition is to be an outstanding local hospital for the local community and a world—class centre of specialist clinical and research excellence. We are globally renowned for our specialist work in stroke and major trauma, liver disease and transplantation, cardiac, neurosciences, haemato-oncology and foetal medicine. Additionally, we work with King’s College London to offer training, education and clinical placements for medical, nursing and dental students.

Partnership is central to providing the very best patient care. Working closely with GPs, commissioners and other providers, we aim to create a joined-up and well-managed healthcare system. We are also proud to be a founding members of King’s Health Partners, collaborating to deliver bench to bedside solutions to further improve patient health and wellbeing.

With new investment in the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Department of Acute Medicine we are looking for additional enthusiastic and committed Consultant Physicians in Acute Medicine to join our existing team of 10 WTE consultants at the Denmark Hill site.

We have recently opened a new Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) alongside our Emergency Department and have exciting aspirations for the future delivery of our service through a rapid access medical unit (RAMU) with provision for acute and ambulatory care in the next few months. This work will need the very best clinicians, educators, negotiators and leaders. You must be talented, hardworking, innovative, flexible and resilient. This post will be excellent for candidates wanting to develop their portfolio and skills at any stage of their career.

As a team of dedicated Acute Medicine physicians, we provide most of the medical take, run the AMUs and the newly opened ACU, seven days a week. We are responsible for the immediate medical care of patients, establishing early plans for future management.

This will include the requirement to contribute to the out-of-hours on call rota and delivering seven-day care. We are an expanding and evolving service, join us and help develop a great clinical, academic and management team.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Closing Date: 5th January 2020, midnight.
AAC Interview Date: 12th February 2020
