Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as a Band 8A Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist within Durham and Darlington Children and Young Peoples Service. The initial 12 months of the post is for maternity cover within the Child Advocacy Service. This service is part of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre and supports children and their families involved in the court process following complaint about sexual abuse. This innovative service is part of a national pilot site working across agencies and in partnership with Durham Constabulary and Community Commissioning Groups. The service has been evaluated independently through Durham University. Following the initial 12 months in post the post holder will transfer to a position within our wider Durham and Darlington Children and Young Peoples Service.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated Highly Specialist Psychologist. This post will offer the post holder the opportunity to develop their clinical skills and requires flexibility and commitment to working in partnership with children and their families as well as confidence in working across agencies. You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to work with child and young people with complex needs and in partnership with other agencies. The post requires a high degree of professional autonomy and critical judgement and you would receive support from consultant colleagues within the wider children and young people's service.

Applied Psychology is highly valued within the Trust with good professional support. Leadership skills and behaviours are integral to the recruitment process. Strong links exist between the service and local doctoral training courses.
