Job Description

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post to cover twelve months of maternity leave in Medicine for the Elderly at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge from November 2019 . We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our clinical team and participate in the development of clinical services for older adults in Cambridgeshire.

We currently provide specialist care on a Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit, five 'Core' Medicine for the Elderly wards - one of which has been redesigned as a Specialist Delirium Unit. We have developed a Rapid Access Service for GPs (RADAR), and a trust-wide Specialist Geriatric Liaison Team.

The post will offer opportunities for working across a range of clinical settings including core Medicine for the Elderly wards and the Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit. The Consultant will also support the development of our Flagship Frailty Pathway with expansion of our Specialist Ambulatory Care Service and intensification of front-door CGA. Support would be given for the development of sub-speciality interest. Successful candidates will be able to join a waiting list to participate in the general medicine (GIM) on call rota if desired.

We are very keen to develop our existing interest in education and training of juniors, and would also welcome and support applicants with an interest in utilising the research opportunities available to those working within a biomedical research campus.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.
