Job Description

The Viapath Genetics Laboratory in the Guy's Genetics Centre is recruiting to a Medical Technical Officer 2 (afc equivalent band 5) post; this is not an NHS post.

The post holder will perform routine and complex genetic diagnostic tests and associated administration duties, with minimal supervision by clinical scientists working in the Genetics Laboratory.

Preference will be given to those candidates with experience of working in a genetics laboratory with particular knowledge of commonly used techniques such as Next Generation Sequencing, Sanger sequencing, MLPA and genotyping. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team of technical staff under the line management of an MTO3.

The post holder will undertake a range of laboratory duties whenever appropriate, such as genotyping set up and analysis, Sanger sequencing, next generation sequencing, making use of the Laboratory robotics equipment.

The post holder will be responsible for specific parts of the service in collaboration with a clinical scientist which may include performing data analysis and standard report writing.
