We wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow (Core Trainee Level) in Vascular Surgery to start 05 th February 2020 for a period of 6 months, with a possibility of a further 6 months, subject to consultant approval.
The post is based in the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital, which is a state of the art new Hospital facility which will be one of Europe’s leading hospital buildings.
The vascular service at North Bristol NHS Trust is supported by a 24/7 interventional radiology service, delivered by 6 radiologists. Reconfiguration of the network will result in the appointment of a further interventional radiologist to NBT and sessions delivered by consultants currently working in Royal United Hospital, Bath and University Hospitals Bristol. There is a dedicated vascular laboratory on the Southmead site. Currently 24/7 vascular surgery cover for the network is provided across two sites (University Hospitals, Bristol and Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust) alternating weeks on call. From October 2014 all vascular surgery emergencies have been treated at Southmead Hospital.
The clinical fellow post is a new post created in response to the reconfiguration of vascular surgery to North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will make up a team of 2 F1s, 1F2 and 2 Core Trainee doctors supporting the in-patient care of vascular patients from across the network in North Bristol NHS Trust. It is the expectation that the post holder would spend 2.5 days per week caring for in patients, 0.5 days delivering undergraduate teaching, 1 day in theatre and 1 day working on the assigned quality improvement project.
The post-holder will be expected to provide supervision and support for more junior surgical trainees within his/her competence. Although the post does not have postgraduate approval for training, assessment of progression will be by continual assessment with use of PBA (procedure based assessment). The post-holder will be provided with formal documentation of their level of competence on completion of the post.
This post would be suitable for trainees considering a career in surgery prior to gaining core or specialty training or doctors who wish to gain formal training in Quality Improvement methodology. The post holder must have a minimum of 4 months experience in surgery.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
Whilst the posts are not formally recognised for training and does not have postgraduate deanery approval, it is educationally sound and well supported.
If you are shortlisted we will contact you by email with details of your interview and you will need to confirm your attendance.
Please note, North Bristol Trust will not pay any interview expenses in connection with this post.
