Job Description

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow in Cancer Trials (equivalent to core) with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is available to start from 18 October 2019 for 12 months in the first instance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Physician wanting to develop their career as a Clinical Cancer Researcher within the Department of Oncology, Cambridge Cancer Centre. This post is suitable for an individual who is medically trained and eligible to practice Medicine in the UK.

The successful candidate will have experience in Oncology combined with a desire to enhance their knowledge and skills relating to the conduct of clinical trials in patients with cancer. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with senior investigators and research staff in the day-to-day care and management of patients on trials, receiving experimental treatment both in early and late phase settings. We run a large, diverse trials portfolio spanning the entire range of systemic treatment options (cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted, biological and immunotherapy agents as well as studies combined with radiotherapy or surgical intervention).

This post will offer the opportunity for training in all aspects of trial delivery from conception through to completion. The appointee will attend research-orientated outpatient clinics, participating in multidisciplinary teams for the management of solid and haematological cancers. Direct participation in research and audit projects is strongly encouraged.

This post may be suitable for Trainees either before or after specialist Oncology training (or equivalent) and appropriate training, according to their level of appointee's experience, will be offered monitored by a named senior supervisor.
Please note that this post does not carry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.
