Tower Hamlets Community Neuro Team including Community Speech and Language Therapy Services (THCNT)

Barts Health is delighted to be able to offer a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapy post in a welcoming team, with opportunities for clinical development in specialist areas as well as experience in developing service-delivery.

The post-holder will deliver assessment and intervention to a varied and complex caseload of adults referred with swallowing and / or communication difficulties, with neurological and non-neurological diagnosis conditions. The caseload will offer a range of clinical experiences and would be ideal for someone interested in consolidating existing skills in managing dysphagia and acquired communication difficulties and developing skills in managing clients in the community setting. Assessment and provision of assistive and augmentative communication (AAC) aids will be integral to this role. An additional aspect of the role will be to manage clients in the community who have undergone Head and Neck cancer treatment once they are discharged home.

Tower Hamlets is a lateral thinking borough with primary care, acute and community sectors working in partnership as ‘Tower Hamlets Together’. This creates opportunity to be involved in innovative service and pathway development and integrated working. The post-holder will therefore liaise closely with other locality-based allied health professionals, community nurses, GPs and a community-based Consultant Geriatrician to optimise care delivered to clients. The community Speech and Language Therapists also offer in-reach support to the acute team to plan and facilitate discharge into the community.

Involvement with videofluroscopy clinics can be dicussed to support those interested in completing VF competencies.

Regular supervision will be provided as well as there being access to regular SLT / MDT CPD opportunities.

Interested individuals should have:
  • Broad clinical skills with neuro specific experience.
  • Evidence of CPD and postgraduate study
    • Excellent MDT working & communication skills.
    • Current HCPC registration.
