Staff Nurse - Eye Unit

Full Time 37.5 Hours pw

Permanent Contract

Benenden Hospital is looking for an experienced Staff Nurse to join their team on the Ophthalmology ward.

The Ophthalmology Staff Nurse will be expected to:

Provide high standards of Peri-operative care, following hospital guidelines and protocols, promoting a patient-focused approach to care

Where necessary, and appropriate to the particular department, prepare and facilitate theatre lists including entering patient information on IT systems

Ensure patient care areas are safe, fit for purpose and effectively maintained

Ensure patient information data is correctly recorded in the appropriate IT systems

General supervision of junior members of the team, including providing clinical supervision/act as a mentor

Assist the Ophthalmic Theatre procedures as a Scrub or Recovery Nurse

The role will require the post holder to plan and implement the care of patients from admission through to discharge by assessing and monitoring them prior and after surgery. Other duties will include but is not extensive of

Providing outstanding nursing interventions and care to all patients accessing the service

Accurately enter patient information on IT systems

Ensure patient care areas are safe, fit for purpose and effectively maintained

Maintain the safe custody of medications and controlled drugs

Supervise the junior members of the team, including mentorship

As well as technical skills relevant to the role the successful applicant must be able to evidence the following :

Registered Nurse (with supporting revalidation evidence)

ALRT/ Immediate Life Support training or a willingness to undertake training

Strong IT Skills

Proven ability to undertake multiple tasks under pressure

Mentorship training or a willingness to undertake training
