Job Description

Become a Step Forward Foster Carer - A Life-Changing Opportunity for Family Therapists

Foster with TACT Fostering and Bury Council

Are you a Family Therapist with a deep understanding of relationships, trauma, and healing? You already have the empathy, resilience, and communication skills needed to create lasting, meaningful change in a young person's life.

We are looking for emotionally attuned, experienced professionals like you to become Step Forward Foster Carers - offering a safe, supportive home to a young person transitioning from residential care. This is your chance to apply your therapeutic expertise in a powerful new way - in your own home.

This could be your most rewarding role yet - offering not just care, but consistency, healing, and hope.

What is Step Forward Fostering?

Step Forward Fostering is a pioneering project designed to help young people who have faced trauma, loss, and instability move from residential care into a safe, nurturing family environment.

These young people aren't simply looking for accommodation - they need someone like you: a trusted adult who understands emotional regulation, family dynamics, and the power of secure attachment.

As a Step Forward Foster Carer, you'll work as part of a multi-agency team, with therapeutic support built in. You'll never be alone on this journey.

What You'll Receive:

Caring for a young person with complex needs requires robust support - and we provide exactly that, every step of the way.

Specialist Support:

* Your own Senior Practitioner offering regular guidance and supervision

* A Family Wellbeing Worker to support both you and your foster child

* A Hub Carer providing up to 28 days of planned short breaks per year

* 24/7 Out-of-Hours Support

* A peer support network of other Step Forward Carers

* Ongoing training in trauma-informed care, attachment, and neurodevelopmental needs

* Therapeutic and psychological support aligned with your existing expertise

Financial Package:

We offer a generous financial package so you can focus on what matters most - providing stability and care.

* £1,052 per week while a child is placed with you (around £54,704 per year)

* £408 per week retainer between placements (up to £21,216 annually)

* Additional allowances for birthdays, holidays, and cultural celebrations

* Tax exemptions specifically designed for foster carers

s This You?

We are looking for Family Therapists who are:

* Passionate about attachment, emotional healing, and trauma-informed care

* Skilled in managing complex behaviour with empathy and boundaries

* Calm, resilient, and able to create nurturing family environments

* Ready to apply their therapeutic understanding in a home setting

If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
