Job Description

Exciting New Opportunities for Senior Speech & Language Therapists

As a Senior I Adult Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a crucial role in clinically leading, developing, and providing highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy (S&LT) services for the acute medical and surgical wards and ICU at the Jersey General Hospital. You will work autonomously to implement highly specialized assessment, evaluation, treatment, and management of patients with complex needs. Additionally, you will provide advice and training to clients, families, and other professional staff on the management of complex communication and swallowing disorders.

Job Specific Outcomes:

  • Manage a clinical caseload of complex clients and develop and implement a specialist area of speech and language therapy.
  • Disseminate, interpret, and implement government and national policies, standards, and guidelines within your specialist area.
  • Receive and manage direct referrals, diagnosing and screening clients to identify their needs for Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Prescribe appropriate treatment to assist clients in gaining additional function and maximizing existing function.
  • Provide information, support, and advice to other professionals to enable clients with communication impairments to access services.
  • Manage cases/key working of clients with disabilities and offer support to carers to promote effective outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate patient records and administrative records regarding all areas of work.
  • Develop and deliver highly specialist training programs to improve the understanding of clients' needs and promote effective management of communication disorders.
  • Act as a mentor and provide regular supervision, advice, and support for less experienced staff and students.
  • Work as an advanced practitioner in instrumental assessment of swallowing in Therapist-led clinics.
  • Provide consultative advice to consultants to enable accurate diagnosis.

Person Specification: Essential Requirements

  • BSc/BA/MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Postgraduate training in a specialist area through professional courses or equivalent experience.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of linguistics, anatomy, psychology, aphasia, dysarthria, voice disorders, neurological disorders.
  • Deep, practical knowledge in a highly specialist area of speech and language therapy and best practices.
  • HCPC Registration or CORU Registration 
  • Permission to live and work in the UK
