Job Description

Job overview
This post will be within the Acute Directorate (Dartford Locality) and based at Littlebrook hospital. This is a 10 PA per working week post providing senior medical input and leadership to Cherrywood ward. Cherrywood ward is a 17 bedded, female only, acute psychiatric unit.
This exciting opportunity has become available due to the previous post holder progressing in their career. Supervision will be provided by the ward consultant.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including licence to practice.
MHA Section 12(2) Approval holders will contribute to a middle-tier non-residential on call rota. Specialty doctors who do not hold Section 12 (2) Approval are expected to work towards this and will be supported to do so.

Main duties of the job
  • To support the provision of psychiatric services to the
    area/specialty they are appointed to. In this instance ,the post holder would support Cherrywood ward, which is a female only, 17 bedded acute psychiatric unit.
  • Clinical management and care planning for the patients on this 17 bedded unit which would include MDT meetings, CPAs, liaising with carers /families and MHA related work. More details are included
    below within duties included.
  • Active involvement in daily clinical reviews, pre-discharge meetings, Section 117 planning meetings etc. as and when necessary; to work collaboratively with the consultant and MDT in the assessment, treatment and management of psychiatric inpatients.
  • To prepare reports (with supervision and support as needed) and attend Mental Health Act Tribunals as and when necessary, in agreement with the supervising consultant.
  • With the patient's consent, to ensure the involvement of families and carers, wherever possible, in treatment planning.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Full Registration with the GMC
  • • MRCPsych/Equivalent
  • • Section 12(2) Approved
Desirable criteria
  • • Any further postgraduate Qualifications in Psychiatry
Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Minimum of 5 years' experience including 5 years in psychiatry.
  • • Experience of emergency assessments and ability to assess and manage acutely unwell patients
Desirable criteria
  • • Inpatient experience
Training/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive knowledge of psychiatric disorders and their management
Academic Achievements: Audit Research/publications

Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of research and/or audit publications in peer reviewed journals.
Disposition

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to work autonomously and also as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Transport

Essential criteria
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
