Job Description

Job overview
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated and confident Service Manager for a medium secure unit based at the Trevor Gibbens Unit at Maidstone. The Service Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the wards and the Forensic Outreach Liaison Service (FOLS). Working closely with colleagues in all other relevant teams, they will ensure excellent clinical, operational and financial outcomes. They work collaboratively with other providers enabling seamless patient pathways and service user engagement.
The Service Manager will use data and analysis to support better outcomes for patients and will actively coordinate initiatives to ensure improvement plans are developed and implemented in the medium secure unit. They will actively pursue the best outcomes for patients and carers and are knowledgeable about how other Trust services contribute to the success of the organisation.
They will identify opportunities for service improvement and growth seeking support from the General Manager to maximise these. They will also deputise for the general managers in all aspects of the service as required.

Main duties of the job
Working closely with the professional heads and the General Manager to provide demonstrable assurance that the quality of the clinical services including patient safety, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes meet the required high standards. This will include investigations into serious incidents, complaints and staffing issues, appraisal, supervision and training of staff, and compliance with mandatory reporting.
Service Managers w ork closely with the Team Managers (direct reports) and other professionals to ensure care pathways are effective with regular reviews to enable s trategic and operational plans to be delivered.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Professional Qualification Mental Health Nursing (RMN), or any allied health profession.
  • First Degree
  • Evidence of continuing professional development to Master's level or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • MSc. Management course
Experience

Essential criteria
  • Senior Management Experience in running large multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of managing budgets and resources effectively
  • Experience of leading and managing change to deliver organisational goals
  • Experience of individual and team Performance Management and Appraisals
  • Experience of leading business planning processes and delivering targets within an agreed budget
  • Experience of involving service users and carers in the development of services.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective communications and interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop and manage key relationships at all levels.
  • Knowledge of public sector management and NHS Mental Health services and Social Care
  • Leadership skills especially the ability to lead and manage change through influence without direct management
  • Able to analyse complex issues/problems, gather relevant information and exercise sound judgement in reaching the most appropriate conclusions
  • Able to monitor and evaluate standards for quality within the service
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and ability to set priorities in line with local and national priorities
