Job Description
HaematologyThe post will be based in the department of haematology gaining experience in varying haematological disorders. While there is a strong emphasis on the management of patient with malignant disease, these posts offer excellent general experience in general haematology, haemostasis and red cell disorders, with training particularly in the management of complex medical problems in the context of neutropenic sepsis or profound immunosuppression. The CT1/CT2 work alongside CMTs and ANPs, covering haematology. This team provides resident overnight cover for the unit as a whole. Nights are done in blocksof either 3 or 4 days. Support when on nights is provided by a resident specialist registrar (ST3+) who are available to attend patients. Specialist registrars from haematology will be available at all times, i.e. there is no cross-cover at ST3+ level. Specialist haematology nursing staff provide an emergency (out of hours) apheresis service. Band 1B, full shift, resident night cover.
OncologyThe post will be based in the Department of Oncology with consultant-led teams. The CT1/CT2 work on a rota of 10, alongside CMTs, Trust Grade CT1/CT2, FY2s covering oncology wards.This team provides resident overnight cover for the unit as a whole. Nights are done in blocks of either 3 or 4 days. Support when on nights is provided by non-resident Specialist Registrars (ST3+) who are available to attend patients or give telephone advice as appropriate. Specialist Registrars will be available at all times, i.e. there is no cross-cover at ST3+ level. Band 1B, full shift, resident night cover.
Training opportunities in Haematology & Oncology
There are weekly Departmental hand-over and MDT meetings, Case presentations & journal clubs, and disease-specific MDTs in both specialties. There is dedicated CMT teaching and weekly Grand Rounds (Trust-wide), and Service Grade trainees will be included in as manyteaching opportunites as is feasible. CT1/CT2 in haematology are rostered to attend haematology out-patient clinic attendance to sit in with a consultant or SpR.There are extensive library facilities, with access to further science libraries on the adjacent UCL campus. Oncology has an active and extensive research department within University College London, engaged in both clinical and basic science research. There are regular research meetings held, which trainees are encouraged to attend. Seminar rooms areavailable for meetings and private study. All junior doctors are encouraged to participate in research and audit projects.
Clinical Supervision & Pastoral Care
You will be assigned a Clinical Supervisor for each attachment who is one of the Consultants.You are encouraged to enrol with the deanery eportfolio system and complete all assessments and appraisals as per the core medical Apply addition there is an overall supervisor: Dr Khurum Khan for Oncology and Dr Jenny ONions and Dr Satyen Gohil for Haematology. If you are encountering any problems, personal or professional, then you must contact either your supervisor or one of the Consultants listedabove, at the earliest opportunity.
