Person specification

Qualifications
Essential criteria

• • First degree in an appropriate biological science • Completion of a formal training programme in Laboratory Genetics, OR postgraduate qualification (PhD or equivalent) in relevant subject and externally assessed clinical genetics laboratory experience • Completion of Part 1 FRCPath in Genetics; OR PhD in relevant Human Genetics subject and actively preparing for part1 FRCPath • Registered Clinical Scientist with HCPC

Desirable criteria

• • Part 2 FRCPath in Genetics, or working towards

Experience
Essential criteria

• • Significant experience of working as a Clinical Scientist or equivalent • Project management • Supervision / management of staff

Desirable criteria

• • Experience in whole genome sequencing and other specialised molecular genetics methods applied to cancer genetics • Research and development relevant to molecular genetic testing

Knowledge
Desirable criteria

• • Thorough knowledge of requirements for Clinical Laboratory Accreditation

Skills
Essential criteria

• • Analysis of next generation panel and whole genome sequencing data in cancer • Able to organise and manage complex activities • Able to provide leadership and training to scientific, technical and clinical teams within the department, as required • Able to maintain intense concentration on important tasks despite frequent interruptions • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Able to use and manipulate lab computer systems and standard software packages • Able to prepare and present complex scientific and clinical information at meetings or as part of a teaching commitment • Able to develop new policies and protocols
