Clinical Research Fellow in Urology ST3+

The Bristol Urological Institute wishes to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow in Urology to commence in August 2022, initially for one year with further extension dependent on satisfactory progress.

The successful candidate will have dedicated research sessions and will be encouraged to undertake a structured research project leading to a higher degree (MD Res or PhD).

On Calls:

1 in 12 week on call 1 in 12 weekend on call

1 in 12 weekend ward cover 1 in 12 night on call

Basic Qualification/Prizes

Essential criteria

• MBBS or equivalent
• Full registration with the GMC
• MRCS or equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Prizes
• FRCS (Urol)

Post Grad Qualification

Essential criteria

• Evidence of training progression

Desirable criteria

• ATLS/ALS

Experience

Essential criteria

• Skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
• Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems & practices (or equivalent).
• 3 years post qualification experience including 12 months in Urology (at least)

Desirable criteria

• Experience in urology at Spr level

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria

• Competent in peri-operative management of Urology patients
• Experience outpatient management of urology patients.
• Endoscopic skills.
• Able to deal with urological emergencies at registrar level
• Able to carry out diagnostic procedures (flexible cystoscopy, TRUS biopsy of prostate, rigid cystoscopy) independently

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of contribution to published research

Communication

Essential criteria

• Able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives
• Able to establish good working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team

Desirable criteria

• Good oral and written presentation skills

Research/Publications

Essential criteria

• Demonstrate interest in research

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of contribution to published research

Practical Requirements

Essential criteria

• Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post including on-call commitments if applicable

• To have completed an Audit Project

Desirable criteria

• To have completed the audit cycle
