Job Description

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high quality psychology provision to older people across Salford. They will be responsible for providing psychological assessments, formulation and interventions to older people presenting with a range of psychological difficulties. This work will usually be on an individual basis but will also require working with families and carers and there will be opportunities for group work.

They will work in a variety of settings including home visits, care settings and community gateway centres and where appropriate provide telephone/virtual therapy. They will be required to liaise with other primary care and secondary mental health services, social services and non-statutory agencies in order to ensure the needs of the client are met.

The post holder will be involved in service development and evaluation. There will be opportunity to facilitate groups, contribute to staff training and provide clinical supervision to junior members of the team . As a band 8a, you will also offer clinical placements to trainee clinical psychologists.

The post involves community work and home visiting, so applicants must be able to demonstrate ability/offer a strategy to undertake visits safely and efficiently.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • The post holder is primarily responsible for providing clinical psychology services to older people with a variety of mental health needs in primary care settings within Salford.
  • To provide psychological assessments, formulations and interventions to older people presenting with a range of psychological difficulties.
  • To facilitate group work
  • To liaise with other primary care and secondary mental health services, social services and non-statutory agencies in order to ensure the needs of the client are met.
  • To have responsibility for a discrete part of service development and contribute to service related projects and evaluation.
  • To provide clinical supervision to more junior members of staff including assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists.
  • To monitor referrals and manage the waiting list in conjunction with clinical psychology and counselling colleagues.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team and Trust's policies and procedures.

Person specification

Education /Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • Registration as a HCPC Practitioner psychologist.


Desirable criteria
  • Training or post-qualification CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological relevance or specific therapeutic modality


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Relevant clinical experience of working with older people providing psychological assessment, formulation and interventions
  • Experience of providing structured psychological interventions to people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties within a range of different settings.


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision and training
  • Experience of facilitating therapy groups
