Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Ideally you will have experience with intervention modalities which will include goal-directed task-based occupational therapy, pain and fatigue management. Specialist skills in mental health or a background in working in child development are also desirable.

You will be experienced in setting client-centred rehabilitation goals and will offer a family-centred service. This role requires close liaison and working in partnership with community therapy services, education services, and/or other appropriate agencies.

You will support children to work towards meaningful goals focusing on functional skills and independence in areas of self-care, school/work and leisure/play, alongside their families and local teams.

You will be responsible for supporting the development of knowledge and skills in this area and will contribute to service development alongside the team.

You will be supervised by clinical specialist staff within the paediatric occupational therapy team, and supported by the clinical lead for paediatric Occupational Therapy and professionally managed by the Trust Head Occupational Therapist.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HPC Registration
  • Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in paediatrics at senior level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and post registration education and training
  • Knowledge of patient management (child/adolescent) approaches in rheumatology and chronic pain and CRPS
  • Experience of running group interventions
  • High standard of performance in general paediatric skills


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research
  • Experience of rheumatological and/or MSK assessment and management
  • Child/infant mental health experience
  • Sleep, sensory, parent education


Skills
Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge, understanding and application of Occupational Therapy process relating to client centred practice
  • Specialist knowledge, application and analysis of standardised & non standardised assessment tools e.g. handwriting, UL, functional ADL
  • Demonstrate sound techniques in applying a range of sensory, physical and manual assessments and treatments
  • Ability to work autonomously, acting decisively on behalf of self and others, setting own priorities
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary diagnostic and intervention services
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and excellent team building skills
  • Committed to improve the experience of children, families and carers, appreciating complexity of context, culture of diversity


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of liaising with schools or developing a care programme within a school setting
  • Experience of chronic pain and/or CRPS assessment and management
  • Experience of working in a dedicated MDT
  • Experience of working within or across a clinical network
