Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal portfolio demonstrating postgraduate education/courses in MSK Physiotherapy
  • Working towards a recognised relevant Masters Degree in MSK or evidence of working at an equivalent level

Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the CSP
  • Formal or post graduate courses in leadership and management
  • Working toward MACP membership


Experience Essential criteria
  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years are in MSK
  • Experience in the management of complex MSK conditions
  • Good understanding of the current challenges facing the current health economy and implications for Physiotherapy
  • Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance and experience of undertaking clinical audit
  • Experience of operational leadership
  • Experience of strategic development
  • Experience of the performance management of Physiotherapists and students

Desirable criteria
  • 2 years experience working in NHS in UK


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Highly specialist skills in the management and assessment of complex MSK conditions
  • Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Highly specialist skills in the provision of manual and exercise therapy
  • Good teaching, supervisory & appraisal skills
  • Proven organisational prioritisation and delegation skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Able to lead training
  • Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the differing needs of patients
  • Ability to be self-motivated

Desirable criteria
  • Ability to run courses-internal/external
  • Advanced report writing skills
