Detailed job description and main responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy clinical services medicines management technician team at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill.

This role will be integral in supporting the provision of clinical services to patients on the wards. This role will involve the following:
  • Ward based dispensing services to streamline patient discharges.
  • Participation in an innovative 7-day pharmacy service.
  • Engaging and working in collaboration with a broad multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensuring medication storage and security criteria are met to comply with national standards.
  • Gaining an underpinning knowledge and practical experience of performing medicines management duties at ward level.
  • Rotating through a wide range of specialties including acute medicine,critical care, neurology, paediatrics, cardiology renal, haematology and surgical/gastro medicine.

Main Responsibilities

? To maintain compliance with King’s policies and procedures for Medicines Management.

? To maintain and develop high quality, consistent, patient-focused pharmacy services to wards in conjunction with clinical and patient services staff.

? To be the technical link person between wards and pharmacy, and to manage calls and requests as appropriate for the pharmacy team, via the wifi phones.

? To propose and implement policies and new working practices for ward-based pharmacy services that will have an impact in the care group or Division.

? To propose changes to working practices that will maximise the potential for efficiency, safety and cost reduction.

? To manage and support the safe, accurate and timely supply of medicines to wards and clinics, and other areas as required, by managing the medication supply chain in conjunction with Pharmacy team members, Stores and Distribution staff.

? To check Patients’ Own Drugs (PODs) for use during inpatient stay and at point of discharge where necessary.

? To support the delivery of Hackett compliant homecare services across the Trust.

? To adhere to and maintain quality standards and performance indicators for service developments implemented.

? To cover or to participate in dispensary services, as necessary.

? To cover other specialties, as and when necessary, as required by the Clinical Services team, to the same standard, in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures.

? To support the Pharmacy Clinical Services team in the development of the medicines management pharmacy technician service.

? Be able to accuracy check clinically screened dispensed prescriptions, according to policy.

? To be able to follow departmental SOPs and dispense medication accurately.

? To be able to use pharmacy computer systems correctly, enter data accurately from transcription sheets, prescription forms and any other prescriptions written by others on Ascribe.

? To be able to use Trust EPMA computer systems to record medication histories, order nonstock medication, endorse PODs and Patient Own Drugs at Home assessments.
