Job Description

Main duties of the job

The Biochemistry department across MFT is one of the largest Biochemistry departments in the country currently spanning the three sites of Oxford Road Campus Manchester, Wythenshawe, Trafford and North Manchester in the near future. We are looking for a high performing, aspirational and motivated Lead Biomedical Scientist to join our Biochemistry team to manage and support the automation laboratory on the Oxford Road Campus.

As one of our Lead Biomedical Scientist, you will support the Directorate Manager and Deputy Directorate Manager with the implementation and support of training programs for the directorate to enable staff development and career progression, be involved in every aspect of our work including staff management and recruitment, quality and governance, workflow and equipment and budget management. You will also be expected to be involved in strategic planning to align processes, drive efficiencies and improve quality across MFT. The post will be based at the Oxford Road campus however you will be expected to attend the other sites for ongoing service requirements including North Manchester.

The services are accredited to UKAS 15189 and 22870 and the departments hold full training status for registration, specialist and higher specialist portfolios. All departments have a friendly atmosphere with good team spirit and offer the opportunity for you to develop personally and professionally.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Fellowship of the IBMS, Higher specialist diploma of the IBMS, or MSc in relevant discipline
  • Recognised management qualification or attendance at short courses on relevant management issues.
  • Training qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science


Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience within the discipline (minimum 5 years within Biochemistry and 2 years in supervisory (senior) capacity.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and the principles and application of quality assurance and control.
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of analytical methods and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of UKAS ISO Apply


Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of professional, local and national policies that may affect provision of pathology services


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of core analyser data management systems.
  • Significant Post HCPC registration experience in relevant discipline within a UKAS accredited laboratory
  • Ex
