Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To provide a comprehensive Aseptic Service to the Trust, ensuring compliance with current directives, legislation, external audits, GMP, GCP and Health and Safety.
  • To be accountable for own professional actions but to be guided by national protocols, KCH Formulary and other local policies and procedures in relation to the provision of a clinical service.
  • Partaking in nutrition ward rounds and managing areas of this service. This involves providing the parenteral nutrition service to KCH as part of an MDT including attending ward rounds, ensuring safety and stability of bespoke PN formulations, adding the prescriptions to the electronic prescribing system, and also checking PN bags to ensure they are of acceptable quality.
  • To co-ordinate day to day preparation of chemotherapy and clinical trial patient doses.
  • To liaise with the Senior Pharmacy Technicians to ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of aseptic products.
  • To manage junior aseptic pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.
  • Issuing rota's to ensure the staff know their duties and setting up monthly feedback meetings for the pharmacists in Aseptic Services.
  • To work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary and pharmacy environment, and maintain rapport with medical and other colleagues.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient working, and supporting staff to ensure they are fit for work and workload is distributed equally.
  • To implement service development projects to grow the service and always aim higher for a better quality of care.
  • To promote equality, diversity and staff well-being. Ensuring all staff feel supported and able to carry out all of their duties safely and effectively.
  • To participate in late duty rotas and undertake back up on-call commitments on a regular basis.

Person specification

Registration
Essential criteria
  • GPhC registration
  • MPHARM degree


Desirable criteria
  • At least 12 months experience working in pharmacy aseptic services


Education and Training
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist post-graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy


Experience
Desirable criteria
  • 12 months working in hospital pharmacy
