Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the existing Frailty Therapy team as part of either a job share arrangement or as part time hours. The post will be based primarily at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The team work across 5 frailty wards, one of which is a specialist dementia ward.

The Team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and a Therapy Assistant. The nature of the team allows for an integrated therapy approach, meaning this post creates an interesting role to carry out comprehensive, generic and holistic assessments with the aim to deliver the highest standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Frailty Therapy team works closely with the ward multidisciplinary team members as well as building strong working relationships with our community colleagues. The multidisciplinary approach works to achieve patient goals in rehabilitation, effective discharge planning and improved patient flow from the hospital setting.

The team currently covers an 8.00-16.30 Monday to Friday but with a potential to move towards a 7 day service in the future.
  • A supportive working environment with regular supervision
  • An opportunity to work across a number of Frailty wards where patients present with a wide range of clinical conditions and complex discharge planning needs
  • Experience in working within a well-established MDT that is always striving to improve practice, open to feedback and welcome fresh ideas
  • Support to develop your own non clinical skills
  • An opportunity to contribute to service development

You should have:
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to work autonomously under pressure
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills
  • Confident clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Experience across a variety of clinical settings eg; falls prevention, elderly care and acute inpatient work
  • Experience in supporting junior members of staff and other colleagues

NHS and / or Social Care experience is essential.

You must have a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy and be HCPC registered.
